Stewart Title
In 2004 Stewart Title self-reported that it transacted $68,602 in Direct Operations (title insurance premiums in Vermont without the assistance of independent attorney agents). Stewart’s Direct Operations accounted for over 7% of its Premiums Earned in 2004. Apparently that is not enough for this Company, as it has recently advertised a job position for an employee to open a title and conveyancing operation somewhere in Vermont. The posting for the position stated that the employee will work on a commission basis capturing business from lenders, realtors and others. This poses a SERIOUS threat to attorneys who are independent agents. Stewart Title also self-reported income by way of “Affiliated Agencies”.
